h3. Introduction
We offer machinery to enable manufacture of detailed and highly finished concept models, functional working prototypes and facilitate the iterative stages of concept development in a way that is forward thinking and relevant to modern design practices.
\\
This facility operates on a 'walk in' basis for the most part but can be booked for special courses, inductions and tutorials. It is recommended that the facility operates with no more than 20 students and a supervising member of staff.
\\
Booking the facility for dedicated use is done through room.bookings@rave.ac.uk or Business Support. Booking for dedicated teaching use may not be possible at certain times of high dependancy from Product, IDEA and 3D courses in Foundation due to the very specific nature of their work.
\\
\\
Use of machinery in both the Traditional and Digital facilities is subject to that person agreeing to all Health and Safety regulations. Also, it will be dependant on successful completion of an induction for that specific piece of machinery and provided there is a document signed by the student and the staff who inducted them.
\\
\\
The facility falls into two parts; digital and traditional areas. These two rooms are available for use by students and staff of Ravensbourne provided that a few requirements are met and rules are upheld.
\\
Machinery is NOT to be operated unless
\\
1 - An induction on that specific tool has been given by a staff member trained to do so.
2 - The induction form is understood, signed appropriately and uploaded in Moodle
3 - The operator is confident in the use of the tool.
4 - The tool is set correctly for use.
5 - All Health and Safety requirements are met.
\\
*If doubt, ask*, we are very happy to explain things and point you to information that will help you use every tool safely.
\\
\\
\\
The machines in the digital room represent a minimal risk to safety. They can be operated without a member of staff being present, provided you are briefed in the use of the machine you need to use.
\\
All machine tools in the traditional workshop can only be used while in the presence of a trained member of staff. If, in the event of an emergency, or for any reason, the staff member has to leave the room the power will be turned off. We will endeavour to give 5 minutes warning to allow safe shut down of machinery etc.
\\
\\
Power will be on and the workshop will be open between these hours.
\\
9:30 - 12:30 am (15 min tea break at some point)
\\
Power off for lunch
\\
13:30 - 17:00 pm (15 min tea break at some point)
\\
Machine repairs, sickness and staff training may impact on these times but we will endeavour to give notice of such occurrences should they arise.
