Ravensbourne Blogs
This project aims to provide a locally hosted weblogging application to serve the entirety of the Ravensbourne Community. The service will be accessible both inside and outside the college subnet, and all students and staff will be entitled to a personal weblog ('blog') on this server.
Why is blogging important?
As well as being useful for education - blogs map neatly onto Ravensbourne pedagogical concepts like reflective journals and personal development plans - the RSS syndication feature of blogs empowers creative professionals to participate in a rich, grass-roots, rapidly-evolving culture. One of the great potentials of this culture is for creative professionals to connect with the so called "long-tail". Here's an example. If you make videos, why not set up your own TV channel? Digitise your back catalogue, knock together a channel identity, go live. It's easy.
Step 1: get yourself a blog that can publish RSS with enclosures (ours does).
Step 2: sign up and announce your channel at Participatory Culture
.
Step 3: err, there is no step three!
We believe that it's important for creative professionals to engage with participatory culture on line, and in the "real" world. We are running a funded
project to integrate blogging into the curriculum.
